Our in-house muralist Caterina can bring your space to life, creating a distinctive, rich and immersive atmosphere in any home, studio, shop or office. Whether crafting dramatic landscapes or seascapes; designing imaginative gardens or jungles; or transforming a child’s bedroom with beloved storybook characters, she infuses every project with depth, drama, and charm.
Having always been an enthusiast of drawing, colour, mark making and history of art, Caterina draws inspiration from the classical Italian decorative traditions, frescoes, Chinese watercolours, antique wallpapers, trompe l'œil, nature, botanicals and ancient and modernist painting techniques.

After graduating in Italian Literature at the University of Bologna, Caterina moved to Rome, where she attended decorative painting, trompe l’œil and watercolour classes at Roberto Lucifero’s Accademia del Superfluo. She then apprenticed to a Roman atelier, extensively executing traditional murals and restoring damaged or impaired artworks and buildings. Caterina then refined her skills in oil painting, faux marble and faux wood application techniques in Brussels, at the Institut Supérieur de Peinture Van der Kelen Logelain, graduating in 2006 with Distinction.
With a diverse and extensive skill set, Caterina has worked on projects ranging from restoring frescoes in Milan and reimagining and restoring the interiors of historic homes in Bologna, to the decorative painting of Dior boutiques across Europe with the Atelier de la Torre team. Her expertise allows her to bring any aesthetic desire beautifully to life.
If you’re interested in exploring this transformative technique, please contact Sarah and Caterina to discuss your design ideas and vision.
Create a sense of calm, space, and connection to nature with the painting of forests, trees, tropical or jungle landscapes, seascapes or underwater scenes, mountains, clouds, open skies or sunsets.
For a soft, elegant, and timeless look use florals and botanical elements -delicate blossoms or oversized flower motifs, exotic plants and luscious leaves, creeping rustic vines or seasonal scenery from spring buds to autumnal woodland.
For a classical, heritage or historical feel, consider Renaissance or Baroque fresco styles, Greek, Roman, or Egyptian motifs or Oriental or Persian decorative art.
If the focus is on colour, form, and movement, explore abstract shapes or flowing brushwork, colour gradients and geometric patterns.
"Trick the eye" murals give depth and realism, creating fascinating and dramatic illusions. From faux windows or balconies with scenic views to open blue sky ceilings with fluffy clouds, stone arches, columns, or architectural illusions.
Creative or storytelling designs such as fairytale landscapes, surreal dreamscapes and mythical creatures create a space which plays with the imagination.
Delight your kids by brightening their rooms with planets, rockets and astronauts, stars, moons and constellations, castles, dragons or dinosaurs, pirate ships or treasure islands, hot air balloons, airplanes, rainbows and clouds, jungle, woodland or farm animals, butterflies, bees, and birds, underwater adventures or outer space galaxies or with their favourite story book characters.
Mural restoration blends fine art skill with conservation expertise, ensuring antique paintings and decorative historical spaces are both protected and renewed. By stabilising aged surfaces and carefully reinstating lost detail, colour and form, the process brings imagery back to life.
We design and paint a wide range of murals, including nature, landscapes and seascape murals, floral & botanical murals, classical imagery, Renaissance or Baroque frescos, decorative patterns, trompe-l’œil, illusion, abstract and geometric murals, children’s room and playroom illustrations, and custom artistic concepts tailored to your space and vision.
Yes, murals can be created in private homes and gardens, schools, offices, studios, libraries, retail spaces, spas, hotels, salons, wellness spaces and public or corporate environments.
Yes, murals can be applied in both interior spaces and exterior settings. For exterior settings a clear matt weather-shield varnish will be applied for protection.
The design process begins with an online or in person consultation with Sarah, and Caterina our in-house muralist to discuss your ideas, inspiration, and the atmosphere you’d like to create. We then agree and finalise imagery usually with a handmade sketch before starting the painting process.
The timeline depends on the size, level of detail, surface type and preparation required. Smaller murals can take a matter of days, while larger or more intricate projects may take several weeks.
We use high-quality, professional-grade oil and water based paints suitable for interior or exterior use, ensuring the products are always durable, highly pigmented and environmentally friendly. Finishes are chosen depending on desired sheen and in relation to the imagery. If a protective clear varnish is needed, the type and sheen level will also be discussed.
Murals can be abstract or realistic, historical or modern. There are many styles and themes of interior decorative murals —ranging from classic, hand-painted scenes to bold contemporary designs. The style you choose usually depends on the space (home, office, restaurant, hotel, etc.), and the atmosphere you want to create.
Decorative murals have a long history dating back thousands of years. The earliest examples come from prehistoric cave paintings, like those in Lascaux, France. Ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans painted murals to decorate temples, tombs, and public buildings, often telling religious or mythological stories. During the Renaissance, artists like Michelangelo used murals for grand religious and cultural expression such as in the Sistine Chapel. In the 20th century, murals became tools for social and political messages, as seen in the Mexican muralist movement and with graffiti. Today, they’re used worldwide to beautify and create atmosphere in both public and private spaces and to express community identity.
